FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ed Rudolph Northbrook Velodrome to host 2005 National Collegiate Track Cycling Championships

Northbrook, Illinois – September 14, 2005 - The country’s best collegiate track cyclists will arrive in Northbrook in the next few weeks to compete at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome for individual and team national championship titles.

The 2005 National Collegiate Cycling Association (NCCA) Track National Championships, hosted by the Northbrook Cycle Committee and Northwestern University, will take place September 29 - October 1.   The velodrome expects over 25 collegiate teams comprising of more than 120 competitors from around the country to compete in various track events during the championships.
Peter Janunas, President of the Northbrook Cycle Committee, says that in addition to its central location, "Northbrook was chosen to highlight the community’s accomplishments in saving the track and to showcase the fast new surface.”

The most heated competition is expected to come from the cycling teams of Indiana University, Pennsylvania State, Marian College and the University of Florida.  While cycling is generally regarded as an individual sport, collegiate cycling adds a dimension of team competition.  Although both team and individual events are included in the championships, the competitors’ results in the individual events are just as important to their respective teams, as they are awarded points that go toward the team’s overall score.  Some events are for time—races against the clock—and others will be mass-start events where the competitors race each other to the finish line.
